What is Mind?

Fevereiro 3, 2009

While many leading neuroscientists believe our “minds” — our emotions, our thoughts, our worries — are dominated by the chemico-electrical matrix of the brain, Vincent Paquette thinks differently. His experiment with spider-phobes was intended to show that mental activity can dramatically, and permanently, change how the brain works, and, therefore, that the mind has a separate existence. The experiment is part of an ambitious program of research that may eventually upset both science and psychiatry by proving that our mind is not chained to the impulses of our brain, but is rather more independent and powerful than anyone had imagined.

“If you change the mind,” Vincent Paquette says, “you change the brain.”
